Madras Redevelopment Commission

Downtown Madras Flower Pots

The Madras Redevelopment Commission ("MRC") meets once or twice a month and is comprised of the City Council and Madras business men and women. The MRC's goal is to assist in meeting the City's economic development objectives through rehabilitation of older and historic structures, redevelopment of key sites, improving transportation and utility facilities in the urban renewal area, assisting with the construction of needed public facilities, and creating public amenities. In addition, the MRC promotes private development, redevelopment, and rehabilitation within the urban renewal area to help create jobs, tax revenues, and self-sustaining, vital, and vibrant commercial districts. The MRC also provides valuable insight for the Housing Urban Renewal District to increase development of all levels/types of housing in Madras.

Downtown Beautification

The MRC funds flowers during the summer for the Downtown flower pots and evergreens for the pots along with lamppost greenery during the winter months. In addition, the MRC invested in lights for trees along 4th and 5th Streets in the Downtown core to add vibrancy and beautification. During the holiday season, additional lighting is added to the trunks of the trees for extra sparkle. The lighting is all low-energy LED certified and the City received an energy rebate by utilizing this low-energy option.

The MRC provides grants for paint, window dressings, sidewalks, design assistance, adaptive reuse, and much more to help business owners beautify Downtown. You can find information HERE.

COVID Grants

The MRC provided grant funding to assist businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep them afloat and provided much needed advertising and logistical support during the various phase levels mandated by the state.

After several site visits - including a week where she stayed, worked, ate, and shopped downtown - numerous workshops, interviews, and conversations, Reeves returned to Madras to present the Downtown Revitalization Toolkit in early May 2019. Please see below for both her presentation materials and the Toolkit itself.

The MRC's  Fiscal Budget runs July through June.
