City of Madras Provides Opportunity to Influence Downtown & Future Housing Development
Date: June 7, 2021 – Immediate Release
Contact: Nicholas Snead, Community Development Director 541-325-0304
The City of Madras is embarking on two significant projects to guide development in the downtown area and future housing through Development Code changes. The City has received a Transportation and Growth Management (TGM) grant from the Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to update the City’s Development Code. Specifically, the City is looking at code changes, along with current and future downtown parking needs and would like community feedback in order to balance development with business and customer parking needs in the downtown area. Community input is important so that the City can continue revitalizing the downtown area.
Since 2018, the City has approved a Housing Action Plan and as a result made significant policy changes to address the permitting process, regulations, and the cost of constructing housing. To complete additional actions identified in the Housing Action Plan, the City seeks to update the Development Code to enable Middle Housing to be constructed.
The City needs community input on these two key projects that will help guide the future of the City. Come and learn about these projects and provide meaningful feedback by attending the Open House at City Hall on Thursday, June 24th at 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The open house will also be available via Zoom.
