Council has expressed interest in establishing the following committees and will be seeking commitment from the community as these committees are formed. Subscribe to the City's Facebook page for notifications. Proposed committees include:

If you're looking for an opportunity to serve your community, but don't have a lot of time to commit, serving on a Budget Committee is a great place to start. There are two Budget Committees for the City. The City Budget Committee which meets annually and the Madras Urban Renewal Agency Budget Committee which meets biannually. Both consists of only 2 or 3 meetings per session occurring in the Spring (typically April). The meetings are in the evening and the City typically provides a meal!

The Homeless Advisory Committee was formed in response to the homelessness and homeless camping issues withing the incorporated limits of the City of Madras. The committee consists of members from the City Council, law enforcement, emergency medical services, public health, the faith community, mental health, legal advocacy, and a community advocate.  Other participants will include the city administrator and representative staff from community development and public works. The primary purpose of the committee is to ensure all service agencies are working together toward common goals related to issues involving both seen and unseen homeless individuals. As an advisory committee, they will not make decisions, but make recommendations to the City Council on matters concerning homelessness and homeless camping.

The Planning Commission provides balance, leadership, fairness, equity, decision-making, and communication for the community. They balance competing interests in public hearings so decisions are made that reflect the community’s needs. The Planning Commission also assumes the role of ensuring fairness in public meetings where public decisions are made by following the prescribed procedures for public hearings established in the City of Madras zoning ordinance and in the planning commission’s bylaws. Fairness in public meetings is also achieved by the Planning Commission by maintaining a safe and friendly meeting that encourages all citizens to participate regardless of their experience in planning and public speaking. /citycouncil/page/get-involved
