Madras, Oregon - Bend resident Dan Horne, an avid wingsuit skydiver, will be attempting a new Oregon State skydiving record for the most jumps in 24 hours on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

With over 20 years of skydiving experience, including night jumps, formation skydiving, canopy piloting, and wingsuit flying, Dan will attempt to break the Oregon State skydiving record for the most number of jumps performed in 24 hours. The long-standing current record of 40 jumps is held by Rodney Holberton, performed at Beagle Sky Ranch in southern Oregon on March 16, 1986.

Beginning at sunrise, approximately 5:30 am, Dan will skydive from an altitude of 2500 feet attempting four to five jumps per hour with the scenic backdrop of Mt. Jefferson. Dan's goal is to beat the current 40 jump record during daylight hours, although the United States Parachute Association allows 24 hours for this official record. “I appreciate the support of local sponsors Avid Cider and Seven Peaks Hard Seltzer and I’m excited to represent Central Oregon and bring the Oregon State record to my community,” Dan stated.

The record attempt will be held at the Madras Airport which is home to Skydive Awesome, a local, family-owned parachuting operation that will be providing support for the jumps. They also provide skydiving instruction and tandem parachute jumps. “This is a tremendous opportunity and we’re looking forward to Dan setting the record here in Madras,” stated Skydive Awesome owner Drew Smith.

The Madras Airport is owned by the City of Madras and managed by Rob Berg. The airport gets especially busy in the summer months with general aviation, flying lessons, skydivers, and wildland fire operations, but it is also the location of the Airshow of the Cascades and the world renowned Erickson Aircraft Museum. “We are a busy airport, with a lot of great experiences here. Having Dan attempting to set a new record for skydiving at our airport is really something special,” stated Berg.

The public is invited to observe the event, although state required social distancing guidelines will be followed. The airport is located at 2028 NW Berg Drive in Madras.
