MADRAS CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW COUNCILORS

Madras, OR – At their regularly scheduled meeting last night, the Madras City Council voted to appoint Mike Seibold and Edwin “Lamar” Yoder to fill two positions vacated by the resignations of former Councilors Bartt Brick and Royce Embanks, Jr. Both positions have terms expiring December 31, 2022. A total of six people were interviewed by the Council. “All the applicants had great responses to Council’s questions and it’s nice to see so many qualified people willing to volunteer their time for the community,” stated Mayor Richard Ladeby.

Mike Seibold is self-employed and has resided in Madras for 2-1/2 years. Prior to living in Madras, he resided in Tigard, Oregon. He graduated from Portland State University with a BS in Economics and a Minor in Communication. His background includes working with the Veteran’s Affairs Department to increase Native American participation rates, coordinating a canned food drive in Downtown Portland and participating in the Race for the Cure. On his application, Mr. Seibold wrote that his reason for wanting to serve on the Council was:

“I have been very interested in current events, politics and history my entire life. I absolutely love the City of Madras…I want to volunteer my time and energy and engage with my community to help make Madras the best it can be for its residents both now and in the future.”

Edwin “Lamar” Yoder is the owner of Dick Dodson Realty and has resided in Central Oregon for about nine years, two of which have been in Madras. He has a background in construction and has built over 240 homes. He’d like to see students from the Middle School and High School engage in some interaction with the Council so they can become future leaders. On his application, Mr. Yoder wrote that his reason for wanting to serve on the Council was:

“I want to give back to the community and be a part of making Madras a better and safer place. As a business owner, I want to be part of making Madras a better place for business owners and economic development. I want to help make Madras a place that we all can be proud of.”

Both appointees will be sworn in by City Recorder Lysa Vattimo in City offices over the next couple of weeks so they can receive official communications. A formal swearing in ceremony will be held at the April 12, 2022 City Council meeting at 5:30 pm at City Hall, 125 SW “E” Street, Madras.

Mayor Ladeby encouraged the rest of the applicants to consider other opportunities available to them within city government and stated, “Not only are there opportunities to serve on a variety of other committees, but there will be three open Council seats along with the Mayor’s seat in the upcoming election cycle.
