MADRAS POLICE MAKE ARREST IN SEPTEMBER STABBING AT HOMELESS CAMP

A man who was questioned by Madras Police in connection with a September 11th stabbing at a homeless camp near SW 4th and Maple Streets in Madras has been charged and is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail. The suspect, 40-year old Sampson Price, is charged with:

  • Assault in the first degree
  • Assault in the second degree
  • Unlawful use of a weapon; and
  • Tampering with physical evidence

Mr. Price will be arraigned in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm.

The charges stem from a stabbing incident that occurred in the early afternoon of September 11, 2023, near SW 4th and Maple Streets. Officers responded to St. Charles hospital in Madras where an individual was being treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds. This person was determined to be the victim of the referenced incident. Officers interviewed the victim and several individuals found waiting at the hospital. In addition, they performed a search of the incident scene and interviewed individuals onsite.

“Our officers interviewed several witnesses and were eventually able to identify a potential suspect. When Officer Kathrein discovered the suspect was in custody at the jail on other charges, he seized the opportunity to interview him and was able to charge him in this case,” stated Chief Tim Plummer.
