Case: M23-0942
Contact:  Officer Ryan Kathrein, 541-475-2424 x208

A suspect in a string of burglaries to several Madras businesses has been arrested. The first burglary was reported on August 19, 2023, when the owner of a food court located on SE 5th and “D” Streets in Downtown Madras reported their business had been broken into and a variety of items had been stolen. Just over a week later, on August 27, 2023, that same owner called to report that they had been burglarized again. A variety of items, including cash, were stolen during these burglaries and it was discovered that the suspect had made entry thru the roof during one of the burglaries.

The following day, the owner of a storage facility in the same area called to report a burglary had occurred at their business on SE 6th Street. Several items had been stolen, including a custom car trailer. Later that evening, officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at that same storage facility. Their quick response caused the burglar to flee empty-handed, but unfortunately, officers were unable to locate the suspect.

On September 2, 2023, at approximately 12:09 a.m., Madras Police officers, assisted by Oregon State Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a burglary alarm on SE “D” Street and apprehended 37 year old Theodore Arce, Jr., after he fled from the building. Evidence obtained during the investigations of these incidents tied Mr. Arce to all of the burglaries. Mr. Arce was arrested and lodged at the Jefferson County Jail on the following charges:

  • Burglary II (Seven counts)
  • Theft II (Three counts)
  • Theft III (Two counts)
  • Criminal Trespass II (Six counts)
  • Criminal Mischief II (Two counts)
  • Possession of a Burglary Tool or Theft Device

Mr. Arce is scheduled to appear in the Jefferson County Circuit Court on September 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact Officer Ryan Kathrein, Madras Police Department at 541-475-2424 x208.
